GulfStar Group Announces Promotions and New Hires

(HOUSTON, TX) September 29, 2015 – GulfStar Group (“GulfStar”or the “Firm”), a leading middle market investment bank headquartered in Houston, is pleased to announce a number of key promotions and new hires.

Roshan Gummattira, who leads the Software, Technology & IT Services Practice at GulfStar, was recently promoted from senior vice president to managing director. Roshan has more than seven years of middle-market investment banking experience, including more than $6 billion of equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic advisory transactions for software, services and technology-enabled businesses. Prior to joining GulfStar, Roshan was a vice president in the technology investment banking group at JMP Securities in San Francisco, where he provided advisory and financing services to private and public technology companies. Previously, Roshan worked as a software engineer at Texas Instruments. Roshan received a Master of Business Administration from the Red McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas, a Master of Electrical Engineering from Rice University, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rice University. 

Rupert Gerard was recently promoted from associate to vice president. Rupert came to GulfStar in 2014 from Castleton Commodities International’s natural gas business development team, where he was focused on upstream acquisitions. Prior to Castleton, Rupert worked at the hedge fund Taylor Woods Capital handling commodities research and at the fund-of-funds firm 1794 Commodore Funds, where he was involved in portfolio management, manager selection and marketing. Rupert received his Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD. 

On July 13, 2015, GulfStar announced four new additions to the team. 

Barbara Palmquist joined GulfStar Group as an associate from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, Barbara completed a summer internship in business process improvement at Google. Prior to that, she was a senior consultant at Deloitte Consulting, LLP, where she led engagement teams that developed strategic supply chain solutions and executed statistical analysis to assess financial performance for billion dollar projects. Barbara earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a Masters of Engineering and a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in Operations Research and Information Engineering. 

Aaron Cipala joined GulfStar as an analyst from Vanderbilt University. Prior to joining GulfStar, Aaron worked as an investment banking summer analyst at Farlie Turner & Co. While at Vanderbilt, Aaron served as a member of the Vanderbilt Investment Club and provided academic support for student-athletes as a financial accounting tutor. Aaron earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a minor in Financial Economics from Vanderbilt University. 

John Glenn joined GulfStar as an analyst from the The University of Georgia. Previously, John worked as a summer analyst at CCG Advisors, where he assisted senior bankers in executing mergers and acquisitions. He also served as a member of the Terry College of Business Student Managed Investment Fund. John graduated from the The University of Georgia, Honors Program, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. 

Connor Harness joined GulfStar as an analyst from The University of Texas at Austin. Previously, Connor worked as a summer intern in the financial services division at UBS Private Wealth Management, where he provided a variety of equity and portfolio analyses. He also served as a member of the University Securities and Investment Team (USIT). Connor earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Economics and a minor in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin.
